A 2005 study showed that 70% of chronic disease patients reported positive health changes after a particular type of treatment (homeopathy).
Homeopathy is a gentle and holistic alternative therapy, which stimulates the body to heal itself. It is a complete system of medicine that has been successfully used for over 200 years, and is used by millions of people all over the planet. It treats the internal imbalances that lead to the expression of disease, and so addresses the underlying causes of ill health.
Homeopathic treatment involves the study of our whole being, leaving nothing in isolation, and by bringing the body and mind into balance it can not only promote good health but also lead to an increase in overall energy levels.
Homeopathy deals with the underlying causes of symptoms, rather than suppressing them as they appear. Addressing the underlying cause of a problem is the key to getting better, permanently.
Homeopathic medicines are non-addictive and completely non-toxic. They are therefore safe to use during pregnancy, for babies and adults alike. They can also be used alongside conventional medicine if you so choose, and will not interfere with the action of pharmaceutical drugs.
Homeopathy works on the principle of ‘like cures like’. For example, coffee is a stimulant that can cause temporary insomnia, but the homeopathic remedy coffea, made by minute poetised, i.e. (homeopathic), doses of coffee, is used to treat insomnia. Similarly, onion, which when cut can cause the eyes to water, is used (when poetised into a homeopathic remedy) for the treatment of streaming eyes during the hayfever season.
Homeopathy can be used for both acute and chronic conditions. It is quite often the case that people come to find treatment for a specific physical ailment, and during the course of treatment move their focus to other, sometimes deeper, issues. I feel that my role as a homeopath is to encourage patients to bring about a healing at the very depth of their being, bringing wellness, strength and joy into their lives.
Some of the many areas successfully treated with homeopathic medicine are:
- migraines and headaches
- ear nose and throat problems
- thyroid conditions
- coughs and colds
- herpes simplex / cold sores
- digestive complaints, including IBS
- cystitis
- menstrual problems, including PMS and painful periods
- fibroids, endometriosis
- menopause
- pregnancy and labour
- breast feeding and baby blues
- skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis and moluscum
- alopecia
- joint issues, including arthritis
- ME and post-viral syndrome
- stress related illness
- allergies and hay fever
- insomnia
- depression
- grief and heartbreak
- children living with autism and Aspergers
- children with behavioural conditions including ADHD and ADD
Many people with these conditions have found that help from homeopathy has given them an effective alternative, where other medicines have only offered short-term relief. Homeopathy is also very effective in the treatment of mental or emotional distress, as not only will the impact of the remedy lift the spirits and help get to the root of an issue, but the opportunity to talk and be listened to in a supportive and safe environment also proves very helpful.
Children with emotional or behavioural issues also respond very well to homeopathy. A visit to the homeopath allows the child to be seen and heard freely, and with care. The adult world may often fail to hear a child suffering within school under the burden of a label such as ‘naughty’. I don’t believe that there are naughty children, just children crying out to be seen.
